Mentoring is... "A relational experience through which one person empowers another by sharing God-given resources." Time Elmore, "How To Invest Your Life In Others: Mentoring is... "A lifelong relationship in which a mentor helps a protégé reach his or her God-given potential." Bob Biehl, "Mentoring" Our Mission: To carry out the mandate of James 1:27, "True religion is this, that you care for the orphan and widow." To accomplish this mandate it is our desire to raise the overall consciousness of our community in its care of one-parent families, and where unmet needs exist, to directly assist financially-challenged parents to raise healthy and responsible children. |

Mentor's Commitment: We will ask you to commit at least one hour a week for six weeks, then after this trial period, to commit to weekly contact with your mentee. We will ask you to commit to monthly supervision meetings at Bridge Builders Counseling, Inc. As your relationship develops, you and your mentee will decide what he wants to learn, and how you can best teach him. Vision Statement: We are called by God to share the Gospel of Christ with boys of less maturity, by being an example to them of Jesus Christ. We will do so by teaching, supporting, encouraging and having fun, within the mentoring relationship. We commit to being trained by, being held accountable to, and growing through the Bridge Builders' Mentoring Program. Mentoring? Can I Do That? Mentoring is about who you are rather than what you do. If you can relate effectively to a young person, you could be a good mentor. Mentoring is a condition that arises out of an effective relationship and takes time to build. Mentoring ultimately happens when mentees trust, feel accepted by and view their mentors as role models. Criteria For Mentors:
- Be a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ
- Be a Man
- Demonstrate integrity and commitment
- Be actively involved a church
- Have an accountability partner

From Donald Miller's "To Own A Dragon"
"Upon finding a mentor, the young elephants musth cycle ends. The older and younger begin to travel together, to find food together, to protect each other the older one teaching the younger what elephant strength is for, and how to use it for the benefit of himself and the tribe.
Watching television that night, I wondered if humans arent like that, too. I began to wonder if we guys were designed to have a father, whose very presence would cause us to understand more accurately what our muscle is for, what we are supposed to do with our energy."
The Mentoring Project spotlights a mentoring pair, Ben and Dennis and highlights their story.
